Those traveling to Kopan in Nepal will get a chance to meet the new abbot. With Khensur Rinpoche Lama Lhundrup ill from cancer, a new abbot was been appointed at Kopan Monastery in Nepal. Geshe Chonyi was enthroned this month. Prior to the appointment, he was the resident teacher at Amitabha Buddhist Center in Singapore.

Here you can read an interesting short autobiography on him. It includes his life growing up in Nepal, how he became a monk, and all the way through his studies at Sera Monastery.

Here’s what the previous abbot (Khensur Rinpoche Lama Lhundrup) says about about him:

“You are very lucky to have Khen Rinpoche Geshe Chonyi as your teacher. He has great knowledge, he is very humble, and he’s a learned Geshe. He has very good knowledge!”
