Teachers play an important role in Buddhism. While someone could study and practice by themselves and can do so successfully for many years, being able to rely on a teacher is like having a link to a living tradition who can bring blessings into practice.

Before someone begins a spiritual relationship with a teacher, a student often should have certain qualities to make the relationship fruitful.
